Fans of all things Transformers have never tired over the years when it comes to films, books, merchandise and of course the video games under this title. Transformers Fall of Cybertron is the latest release from High Moon Studios in the Transformers story, that has been well worth the wait, as these superb morphing machines once more take to the video game world.
Transformers robots have been around for years now and the way they transform from a mere machine into a battling force is phenomenal. Transformers Fall of Cybertron really brings out the big guns in terms of the robots and their fighting capabilities. It is a shoot em up game, played in the third person, over the shoulder position that will keep even the most avid fan of this genre glued to the screen, as you battle it out in either Single or Multiplayer Mode, Escalation Mode, while the great Story Mode has far more character involvement than last time around.
Playing as either Autobot, the good guys, or Decepticon, the bad guys, is enabled this time around pleasing fans no end as it gives the game a lot of diversity. Swapping back and forth between the two happens all the way through the lower levels until you reach decision time at the higher levels where you have to make your choice of which group you want to fight your final battles with, Autobots or Decepticons.
Throughout the thirteen levels you select a robot with unique attributes, as your character playing with him to the end. For instance if you select to be Optimus Prime then you will be able to summon a rocket strike from Metroplex, Megatron can hover then bang down on the ground to send enemies scattering, Cliffjumper can be invisible when needed plus Jazz has his laser grappling hook which is really useful. You have plenty of weaponry to fight with throughout the first few levels where you have discovered an Energon lake plus will find yourself fighting against an onslaught of the enemy forces.
High Moon have certainly stuck to everything that is dear to fans of Transformers even alluding to the movie in parts through dialogue. For me they have once again captured the essence of what Transformers is about and that can only be good for players. The story picks up where the last game left us with the planet destroyed plus a shortage of Energon their fuel. Both factions are planning to leave the planet.
Visually Transformers Fall of Cybertron is a masterpiece. The graphics are superb with the machines themselves looking magnificent in their splendour, technique and detail. They look awesome as they transform from a simple car into a unique fighting machine. Customisation is really good in this edition giving players the opportunity to make their robots look very unique. From colours and shades to weapons and body parts the choice is superb.
The locations in this game are simply stunning plus are brimming with detail. If players aren’t floating through the air on platforms they will be trekking through ancient ruins that look very realistic. Each level is designed with the characters and their abilities in mind which is really innovative. Transformers Fall of Cybertron is definitely a fast and furious robotic action game with more than enough guns and explosions to satisfy action junkies. Fans who have been a little disappointed in recent years with previous games will certainly get a welcome surprise with Transformers Fall of Cybertron, it is definitely one not to be missed.
We’d also recommend the light browser version for Transformers – Autobot Stronghold.
